Thing#23

Completing The 23 Things has been quite an experience! I have learned so much about the wealth of information available to us. I have also learned that you must be careful while surfing the web. Overall this is a good program and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to increase their knowledge of the internet. My plans are to re-visit some of the sites that I found interesting.

Thing#22

I took a look at NetLibrary being used in the Charlotte and Mecklenburg County library. It can be a useful tool to library customers. This is another way to keep pace with our competition.

Thing #21

Exploring podcasting was exciting. I visited the Kankakee Public Library site and clicked on Book Talks and there was a list of downloadable books. You can find something for everyone using this tool.

Thing #20

YouTube is a great site for users desiring to make homemade videos. I discovered some awesome videos, for instance, the video that captured a 100 passenger ship sinking near the Shetland Islands in the Antarctic Ocean. It captured the passengers being evacuated.

The Cap'n Crunch Commercial video from the early 70's was a nice discovery as well.

Thing #19

I found a site called Seomoz.org Web 2.0 Award Zeitgeist. There were several sites that I think customers would use in libraries for example, Classifieds and Directories, Events, Shopify, and Peertrainer. Events is one of the site that I will re-visit. I was able to find local events in Baltimore County and Baltimore City.

Thing #18

The online word processor is fantastic. It has everything that you need to create your documents. The really great thing about is that it can be use by anyone and it can be accessed from anywhere.

Thing# 17

I added an entry to the Learning 2.0 sandbox. It was interesting to see how others are using this site to gather information, and share ideas.

Thing #16

I viewed a library's Wiki site in Rochester, New York. I found a great deal of information about the about restaurants, shopping, life in Rochester, and the City. The Book Lovers Wiki was another site that was of interest. It allows users to add or edit content.

Thing #15

Web 2.0 is very impressive. I read "Away From Icebergs" and I agree that libraries must keep pace with the many changes that impact future services. It is necessary to use modern technology to enhance the way customers make their searches.

Thing #14

I did not find Technorati very exciting. I am sure that some users will disagree with me but if found it boring.

Thing #13

Tagging and Discover Del.icio.us is an excellent way to organize your book marks. Tagging can be useful to those wishing to re-visit the site. Since it is a social site, you can see what other users have tagged.

Thing #12

I found that Rollyo is a reliable site. It allows you to create your own search engine. I am was able to find some good information on hotels located in New York.

Thing # 11

LibraryThing is a great site to use to locate your books. I was able to find my favorite books without a problem. It is also a good way to get recommendations to other books by the same author.

Thing #10

The image generator site did not appeal to me. I viewed the Meez site and I did not find that it would be a way that I would spend my time.

Thing #9

I located some library related-blogs in this session. I found some of them quiet interesting for example, Maryland AskUs Now, Facebook, LinkendIn, MySpace, and Library News Blogs.

Thing #8

I am familiar with RSS Feeds.

Thing #7

Technology is very useful. I can use the computer to locate information on many subjects, for instance, health related issues, real estate, travel, and entertainment just to name a few.

I use email to communicate with friends and family.

Technology is being used in all walks of life. Our doctors are using laptops computers to keep medical records and to write our prescriptions.

Thing #6

Discovering the Flickr Mashups and 3rd site was interesting. The Google's map site is something that I will use again.

Thing#5

I found some really cool photos of places that I would like to visit on the Flickr site. However, I did not download any of them. I especially enjoyed viewing the different libraries photos.
